چکیده

Germanium-detectors are the most sensitive high-resolution γ detectors available and are the instrument in nuclear structure physics which allows important information about the structure of atomic nuclei to be obtained. The technology of High purity Germanium detectors is presented in [1]. The reported work is motivated by the needs for a new mechanical treatment procedure within the manufacturing methods in order to obtain better quality of the Germanium surfaces and increased cost-efficiency. Seven germanium crystals with different surface qualities due to varying mechanical treatment were employed for the characterisation of their surfaces. Five of the crystals were fully processed to obtain working detectors. In a first step surfaces were investigated with a Scanning Tunnelling Microscope and a Profiler. The crystals have a size of 8×8×10 mm and are fixed in special housings. A Germanium crystal installed in its housing is shown in Figure 1. These housings are optimized for all used microscopes as well as for a newly developed detector cryostat.

Improving Germanium Detector Resolution and Reliability

High purity germanium (HPGe) detectors used in radionuclide assay systems such as Radionuclide Aerosol Sampler/Analyzer (RASA) systems must operate unattended for long periods of time. Currently, the performance and reliability of commercially available large (~100%) HPGe detectors are acceptable for the majority of laboratory applications. However, for remote systems designed for nuclear deton...

Charge Division Readout of a Two-dimensional Germanium Strip Detector

Germanium strip detectors combine superior spectroscopy typical of germanium detectors with good spatial resolution. Our work has been to develop a 2-dimensional position readout of a 5 5 strip X-Y detector. The prototype device uses two capacitive charge division strings. Each string is read{out by two 13-bit ADCs, one on each end of the string. The four data channels are stored as an event li...

Experimental characterization of space charge in IZIP detectors

Interleaved ionization electrode geometries offer the possibility of efficient rejection of near-surface events. The CDMS collaboration has recently implemented this interleaved approach for the charge and phonon readout for our germanium detectors. During a recent engineering run, the detectors were found to lose ionization stability quickly. This paper summarizes studies done in order to dete...

A Search for Dark Matter Using Cryogenic Detectors (cdms)

The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search experiment uses germanium and silicon detectors cooled to cryogenic temperatures in a direct search for weakly-interacting massive particles in our Galaxy. The novel detectors allow a high degree of background rejection by discriminating between electron and nuclear recoils through the simultaneous measurement of the energy deposited in phonons (heat) and ioniza...

Particle Background simulation for a triple Germanium Cluster detectors at PANDA

For the high resolution spectroscopy of excited hypernuclear states a position sensitive Germanium γ–array [1] [2] has been implemented in the standard PANDA framework PANDAroot. In the simulation encapsulated n–type Germanium crystals are arranged asymmetrically to form a triple cluster [3]. The total γ–array set-up consists of 15 triple Germanium cluster detectors positioned at backward axial...
